The blockhouse

I don't know how old it is or why it was built, but we've always called it the blockhouse. It sits along U.S. 1, just north of Bel Air, Maryland. Anybody know its history?

I wonder if it was the main office for a motor court, with living space on the second floor for the owners?

Thanx Pat. I never got up that way much when I was a kid. My parents weren't roamers, but I've more than made up for it over the years.

The mystery is solved. This was originally the "White House Park Restaraunt and filling (gas) station, 5 miles north of Bel Air on U.S. Route 1". "We serve the best we can buy" was their motto. Mr. S.W. Sherman was the owner and his phone number was "Bel Air 132-M". This information is from a postcard in my Harford County collection and is mid to late 1930's. The building appears new at the time.
Hope this helps.
