Much of the earliest history of Harford County, Maryland is blocked off behind the gates of an army base. One exception is Spesutia Church. Located off Route 40, just below Aberdeen, the church has been standing since 1851, though the graveyard is much older. Local legend has it that there is a sailor buried there in a swinging casket. True or not, there are a lot of early Maryland seafarers buried there, along with many other local notables.
