Country Churches: Herald of Hope Baptist

What a nice looking old building. And how frustrating that I can't find anything about it! It's in northern Harford County, Maryland and it looks to me like it was once a school before it was a church. That's all I know.

I bumped into a history teacher and member of the Harford County Historical Society who lives down the street from this old building. You were correct about its beginnings. He said it was originally a school house named Mt. Pleasant. Page 260 of C. Milton Wright's book "Our Harford Heritage" has mention of the cost of construction in 1902.

Plus there is an Historical Society Bulletin on the old one room schoolhouse in Harford County. THey are available for purchase for for borrowing from the library.

It's hard to tell the schools from the churches sometimes. In this case, the windows were a good clue.

I'm waiting for it to go online. It could be a long wait.

It is currently abandoned, boarded up, and falling apart.

Just passed by this today and sadly watched as it was demolished.
