From what I've read, there were about 130 Rosenwald Schools in Maryland. The one above, recently demolished, was in Abingdon. For more information, check out the Historical Society of Harford County's The"Colored Schoolhouses"of Harford County.

I have never heard of Julius Rosenwald...how cool. His story offers a wonderful foil to that of Henry Ford.
I recently came across some oral histories that say that there were schools in rural WV that ignored segregation. I think poor hillbillies identified with black folk as did Rosenwald.
An old, transplanted West Virginian once said to me, sometime in the late 70's, that he had never heard of segregation until he moved to Baltimore.
