The handbill that started it all hangs in George Glatfelter's office in downtown York.
His great-great grandfather had worked in a paper mill in Maryland, moved north and purchased what is now the flagship Glatfelter mill in Spring Grove, advertised in the handbill in 1863.
When the mill began operating in the Glatfelter family, the York community that is now visible from its corporate offices was just coming out of an occupation by Confederate forces. Continued
