Where are the history buffs?

(York Dispatch) Historic preservation advocates apparently have settled for half a loaf regarding the planned demolition of a portion of the former Western Maryland Railway Freight Station on North George Street.
But it never should have come to this: The wooden structure behind the brick freight station front has deteriorated to a point beyond reasonable repair.
The half loaf remaining, the renovated brick office front on North George, will remain, possibly to be used as offices or retail space.
For preservationists it has to be a tearful compromise. The city's Historic Architectural Review Board last week approved demolition of the wood portion of the station.
But herein lies an opportunity, a chance to showcase York's railroad heritage in one of the last remaining structures once devoted to that industry. Continued.
