A Breath of Plein Air on Maryland’s Eastern Shore


(NYTimes) - AT dawn on Tilghman Island, the sun sends its rays horizontally over the wide mouth of the Choptank River, spotlighting white clapboard houses against the still-dark western sky.
Just before sunset, as cotton-candy clouds glow above the distant Western Shore of the Chesapeake, an orange light tints the sails of antique skipjacks and other craft as they glide home for the day.
“The light is fabulous,” said Walt Bartman, an artist and art instructor who often paints at his weekend house on Tilghman Island on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Continued
